President John Dramani Mahama has urged residents of Bawku and surrounding areas to bring an end to the long-standing conflict that has caused devastation in the region.
Speaking during the 68th Independence Day parade at the Jubilee House on March 6, 2025, President Mahama called for an immediate shift toward peace, emphasizing that the younger generation has been left with painful scars due to the violence.
He stressed that the time for peace in Bawku and its environs is now, highlighting the need to create peaceful environments for children to grow up in, rather than exposing them to ongoing strife.
The President further appealed to the people of Bawku and other conflict-affected regions to build a future where schools, markets, and communities are free from fear and destruction.
“Our children deserve to inherit a peaceful land where their minds are nurtured, not where their nightmares are relived,” he said. He urged the people to rise above division and distrust and work towards lasting peace.
“Let us give renewal of friendship a chance; let us give peace a chance,” he added, noting that while the past should not be forgotten, it should be used as a stepping stone for reconciliation and unity.
