More than 600,000 candidates across Ghana are set to write this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which begins on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, confirmed during a media briefing in Accra on Monday that all logistical arrangements have been finalized to ensure a smooth and credible nationwide examination process.
According to Professor Davis, a total of 603,328 candidates—comprising 306,078 females and 297,250 males—will sit for the exams at various centers across the country.
Candidates will write two papers daily: one at 9:00 a.m. and another at 1:00 p.m. The examination will cover 11 subjects, with each candidate expected to take an average of nine, including core courses such as English Language, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Materials and timetables have already been distributed to all schools and district education offices.
The GES, in collaboration with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), will supervise the examinations with the support of law enforcement agencies. Professor Davis emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the exams and warned invigilators and supervisors against any form of malpractice. He urged candidates to focus on their preparation and avoid relying on leaked materials. He also expressed appreciation to head teachers, teachers, and parents for their support and encouraged students to approach the exams with confidence.
