The Chief Executive Officer of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Abraham Amaliba, has emphasized the need to keep pedestrian walkways clear of encroachment. Speaking to ABC News GH, he stated, “Pedestrian walk ways must be left for pedestrians.”
He expressed concern over the increasing occupation of pedestrian spaces by traders and unauthorized structures, warning that such practices endanger lives and disrupt the safe flow of movement, especially in busy urban areas.
Mr. Amaliba also called on city authorities to take decisive action to reduce congestion in major market centers.
“Create satellite markets to decongest main markets,” he said, urging a more structured relocation of traders.
He noted that traders should be compelled to move to designated satellite markets rather than occupying streets and pavements, which he described as a major safety and urban management challenge.
