Kumasi — A joint team of police officers and National Security operatives on Thursday stormed the residence of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to carry out a search operation.
The operatives, armed with a search warrant, entered the premises as tensions mounted among party supporters and local residents. “We are here under the authority of a warrant. This is a lawful operation,” a plainclothes officer at the scene told reporters.
Though the warrant authorizes a search of the property, authorities have not disclosed the specific reasons for the operation.
The lack of clarity surrounding the mission has fueled speculation, especially given Chairman Wontumi’s high-profile status within the ruling party.
As of the time of filing this report, the politician’s whereabouts remain unknown, adding to the mystery and heightening anxiety among party faithful.
The search has prompted a swift response from the NPP in the Ashanti Region, with several senior party officials arriving at the scene to observe proceedings and offer support. “We are monitoring the situation closely.
Our chairman has always cooperated with the law,” one official said. The incident has sparked significant public interest and debate, with many awaiting an official statement from either the police or the party’s national leadership.
