Dr. Shuraz Issahaku, President of the Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professionals and Lecturer at the University of Ghana Medical School, says employment of allied health professionals will be done based on their year of graduation.
Speaking to Prime News GH on ABC News GH, Dr. Issahaku who has been leading engagements with the Health Ministry urged calm among frustrated graduates: “They should be patient with the ministry. I am woefully aware of the ministry’s effort.”
He added that, “With all effort we can assure that within the shortest possible time, clearance can be given to them to be employed.”
He also explained that no new employment for allied health professionals has taken place since 2019.
His comments follow mounting pressure from the Coalition of Unemployed Allied Health Professionals Association of Ghana, which is demanding urgent recruitment of over 30,000 trained but jobless professionals, including medical laboratory scientists, physiotherapists, and radiographers.
The coalition has condemned what it calls systemic neglect, especially given critical shortages in public hospitals. They are also calling for a structured national policy to prevent recurring delays.
“So what will happen is that, the engagement will be done in order of the years for them to also get the jobs,” Dr. Issahaku noted.
