The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has announced a significant reshuffle of police commanders stationed in key galamsey-prone areas across Ghana. This reshuffle marks the first phase of a broader strategy to inject fresh energy into the country’s fight against illegal mining activities.
The reshuffle, which affects several Divisional and District Commanders, particularly in the Eastern South, Western, and Western North Police regions, is part of the IGP’s ongoing efforts to strengthen enforcement operations in areas most vulnerable to the devastating impacts of galamsey.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the reshuffle is aimed at introducing a new wave of leadership and enthusiasm to tackle the complex and persistent challenges of illegal mining.
Speaking on ABC Midday News, ACP Ansah-Akrofi emphasized, “It is to bring in fresh energy in fighting illegal mining.”

She further explained that the changes would empower commanders to better respond to the growing environmental and security concerns caused by galamsey.
The reshuffle includes a number of high-profile transfers, with top commanders being reassigned to key districts and divisional commands that are hotspots for illegal mining.
Sources indicate that more reshuffles are expected in the coming weeks, as the Police Administration seeks to bolster its efforts in tackling this urgent national issue.
