Former Communications Director of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Sarpong Soprano, has come to the defence of embattled Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, stating that his misstep, while disappointing, should not cost him his position.
According to Mr. Soprano, the incident reflects a lapse in judgment rather than a systemic issue and should be addressed with proportional disciplinary measures rather than dismissal.
In an interview with ABC News GH on Monday, May 12 Mr. Soprano noted, “I am disappointed at the lapse, and I don’t think it is systemic. He should look sharp,” adding that the president could consider docking three months of his salary as a warning.
He argued that Sammy Gyamfi’s trajectory and innovative contributions to national discourse should not be overlooked due to a single error.
“Maybe he should be given another chance,” he suggested, emphasizing that the young communicator has a promising future and valuable initiatives that align with Ghana’s development needs.
Mr. Soprano urged the presidency to adopt a more measured approach, stressing that Gyamfi’s removal would be excessive and detrimental to the momentum of reform he has been championing.
