Professor John Gatsi, a renowned economist and Dean of the University of Cape Coast Business School, has described the recent S&P credit rating upgrade for Ghana from SD to CCC+ as a positive development, but not an indication of full economic recovery.
Speaking on ABC News GH on Wednesday, May 8, he emphasized the need for Ghana to pursue long-term structural reforms, prudent financial management, and strategic planning to sustain this momentum.
“The rating is an improvement, but we need to do more to drive investment growth,” Prof. Gatsi stated.
He urged the government to prioritize export diversification and strengthen support systems for local producers to ensure that the economy builds real resilience.
While acknowledging the significance of the S&P rating, he cautioned that lasting progress will depend on deliberate efforts to address underlying economic challenges.
