Constitutional lawyer Kwame Adofo has stated that the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is politically driven and lacks a legal basis.
Speaking to ABC News GH, Adofo expressed concern over the suspension, arguing that there has been no breach of the law by the Chief Justice.
He questioned the need for a committee to investigate the allegations, suggesting that the move may be politically motivated rather than legally justified.
“There is no legal ground for the suspension, and setting up an investigative committee seems unnecessary unless there’s an ulterior motive,” Adofo said.
Adofo further warned of the implications that could arise from the possible removal of Chief Justice Torkornoo, suggesting that it would set a dangerous precedent for future administrations.
He stressed that such an action would undermine the independence of the judiciary, allowing future presidents to remove the Chief Justice at their discretion.
“The moment you do that, you set a precedent where the next president can also remove the Chief Justice, and that would be a grave threat to the rule of law,” Adofo remarked.
