Starting today, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, telecommunication companies across Ghana are expected to begin implementing a government-backed increase in mobile data volumes ranging from 10 to 15 percent.
The move follows sustained public outcry over the high cost of internet access and aims to enhance digital affordability.
The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, which led the initiative, described the adjustment as a strategic response to citizens’ demands and a step toward bridging the country’s digital divide.
Under the new policy, the country’s major network operators—MTN, Telecel, and AirtelTigo—have revised their data bundles to reflect the mandated increases.
These changes are expected to offer more value to subscribers, particularly students, small business owners, and heavy data users who have been most affected by cost constraints in recent months.
Here’s a breakdown of the new data packages:
AirtelTigo Ghana
- 10% increase on all existing data bundles
- GHS400 bundle: Increased from 195GB to 236GB
Telecel Ghana
- 10% increase on all current data bundles
- GHS400 bundle: Increased from 90GB to 250GB
MTN Ghana
- 15% increase on all bundles
- GHS399 bundle: Reinstated to 214GB (previously reduced to 92.88GB)
The Ministry has assured the public that it will continue monitoring the implementation to ensure compliance and transparency across the telecom sector.
