President John Mahama has acknowledged that the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, is a complex one.
However, the President has vowed not to give up, stating that he wasn’t delusional that the fight would be won within four months of his administration.
“The fight is complex, but i say aluta continua.”
He was speaking at the Workers’ Day celebration held at the Black Star Square on Thursday, May 1.
He said he never convinced himself that the fight against illegal mining, known as galamsey, could be won in just four months of his administration.
Meanwhile, the Organised Labour has expressed its disappointment over the worsening galamsey (illegal mining) situation under the current administration of President John Dramani Mahama.
In a direct address to the President, Organised Labour representatives raised concerns about the escalating destruction of the environment, including the continued degradation of forests and water bodies due to galamsey activities.
They emphasized that, despite the government’s efforts, the menace is worsening five months into the President’s reign.
