Anti-corruption campaigner and Co-Chair of the Citizen’s Movement Against Corruption, Edem Senanu, has stated that there is no legal basis to take punitive action against Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of Goldbod and CEO of PMMC, following his recent gift of money to evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agraada.
Speaking on Tuesday, May 6, Mr. Senanu emphasized that Gyamfi’s actions do not breach any current legal framework or the newly launched Code of Conduct for political office holders.
“There is nothing that is saying you can’t give,” Mr. Senanu explained, adding that the incident, although controversial in public discourse, is “no news” from a legal or ethical standpoint.
He stressed that, “There is no basis for punitive action,” reinforcing that Gyamfi’s gesture, while potentially questionable in optics, does not warrant disciplinary measures under existing regulations.
However, Mr. Senanu urged the presidency to issue a formal caution to Mr. Gyamfi and other government appointees, citing the need to avoid similar public controversies that may erode public confidence.
He suggested that while no rules were broken, such actions can fuel unnecessary political tension and should be curbed through stronger advisory guidance from the executive.
