A member of the New Patriotic Party’s communications team, Manasseh Attah Boahene, has lashed out at the government over the introduction of a new fuel levy, labelling the move as “lazy policymaking.”
Speaking on ABC in the Morning, Boahene argued that the decision represents an unjust attempt to pass the cost of government inefficiencies onto ordinary Ghanaians. “This is a clear incidence of a lazy policy,” he stated.
“They are shifting the inefficiency of government workers unto poor Ghanaians.”
Boahene further described the measure as not only regressive but also insensitive, especially in light of recent increases in utility tariffs.
“Don’t forget, a few months ago electricity tax was increased by 14%, and water tax by 4%, and now you are coming with this so-called ‘Energy Levy,’” he noted.
“This is very unacceptable. It is a way the government is punishing ordinary Ghanaians,” he added, calling for a re-evaluation of such fiscal policies.
He concluded by urging the government to uphold its commitments and adopt more sustainable, equitable solutions. “You don’t tell Ghanaians one thing and then do another. Government must walk the talk,” Boahene said.
