Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has praised the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as a critical partner in Ghana’s pursuit of fiscal stability, climate resilience, and sustainable development.
Speaking during a courtesy call by UNDP Resident Representative Niloy Banerjee at the Ministry of Finance, the Deputy Minister emphasized that the Government of Ghana remains fully committed to its long-standing partnership with the development agency.
He cited the strong alignment between UNDP’s programs and Ghana’s 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, describing it as “essential” to the country’s post-COVID-19 recovery efforts and medium-term development targets.
Mr. Ampem commended UNDP’s financial and technical support, including its over $60 million investment in Ghana over the past five years, which has spanned areas such as governance, youth employment, digital innovation, and climate action.
He particularly highlighted the agency’s role in strengthening Ghana’s Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF) and supporting climate finance access, saying, “We recognize UNDP as a thought leader and strategic partner… bridging financial gaps and advancing economic development.”
He added that further assistance to boost domestic revenue mobilization would be highly appreciated.
In response, UNDP Resident Representative Niloy Banerjee reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to Ghana’s development agenda, applauding recent economic reforms by the government.
He pledged continued support under the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2023–2025, which targets national priorities such as inclusive growth, climate resilience, and governance reforms.
Banerjee also noted UNDP’s readiness to assist in Ghana’s ongoing debt restructuring efforts, while exploring new avenues to deepen bilateral cooperation.
