The University of Ghana has announced the immediate suspension of all social gatherings on campus following a confirmed resurgence of COVID-19 cases.
The decision was revealed in a statement issued by the university’s health directorate on Thursday, June 26, just days after initial reports of suspected and confirmed cases were recorded.
“All staff, students, and visitors are strongly advised to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to the recommended preventive measures to reduce the risk of infection and community spread,” the statement warned.
In a directive issued by the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, all student-led organisations—including GRASAG, the SRC, JCRs, and departmental associations—have been instructed to cancel all scheduled events and week celebrations until further notice.
The notice, signed by Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, Dean of Student Affairs, described the suspension as a necessary step to “safeguard the health and well-being of the university community.”
The directive marks a return to strict campus protocols reminiscent of the peak pandemic period.
University authorities are urging all students and affiliated bodies to cooperate fully with the new measures and contribute to the broader effort of containing the virus on campus.
Enhanced health surveillance and hygiene protocols are expected to follow, as the institution reactivates its emergency response mechanisms to prevent further transmission.
