The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has assured that all outstanding WASSCE results will be released by March 1, 2025, following growing pressure from the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS).
Prior to this development, student body had planned a major protest on February 25 to demand the release of withheld and canceled results, but the demonstration was called off after an emergency meeting between NUGS, WAEC officials, and the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The decision to suspend the protest has sparked debate over whether WAEC can be trusted to fulfill its promise.
Speaking to ABC News, NUGS President Daniel Botwey explained that their decision was based on the intervention of the GES Director-General, who personally assured them that WAEC would be held accountable.
“We have had extensive engagement with the Ministry of Education as well as the Ghana Education Service. At the meeting, we had the Head of WAEC Ghana, and we were able to get the assurance we needed,” he stated.
Botwey, however, warned that NUGS would not hesitate to resume protests if WAEC fails to deliver. “It is at the insistence of the DG that we are taking the word of WAEC,” he emphasized.
Despite WAEC’s latest promise, concerns remain about its efficiency and credibility.
The examination body has faced repeated issues, including exam leaks, delays, and mass result cancellations, leading to calls for urgent reform.
Education stakeholders argue that WAEC needs stricter oversight, digitalized exam processing, and greater transparency to restore public confidence.
