Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has issued a stern ultimatum to over 60 radio stations sanctioned by the National Communications Authority (NCA): “You have 30 days or you’re out.”
This follows a direct order from President John Mahama, earlier in the day, asking the Ministry and NCA to grant a temporary window for the affected stations to resolve regulatory breaches.
“Mr. Speaker, a few minutes ago, His Excellency John Mahama directed that the Ministry work with the regulator at the NCA to allow all the affected radio stations some additional time to correct the identified breaches within a defined time frame,” Minister Sam George announced while addressing Parliament.
The Minister noted that all fines have been waived, citing a more compassionate governance approach.
“This is not the same as the arbitrary revocations and hefty fines imposed under the previous administration. As a caring government, the Ministry has also been instructed to waive all the applicable fines,” he emphasized.
Despite this clemency, Mr. George warned that any station that fails to comply within the 30-day grace period will face formal revocation of their licenses.

Already, some political figures have started criticizing or supporting the move. Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin described Mahama’s intervention as “mere optics,” suggesting it was politically motivated.
Meanwhile, the Sam George has defended government’s action saying it is not a political witch-hunting, ‘but the law is the law.’
With the 30-day countdown now ticking, all eyes remain on the NCA and the affected stations as the deadline looms.
