President-elect John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians of his commitment to consensus-building and responsible governance, emphasizing that his administration will not misuse the overwhelming parliamentary majority secured by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections.
Addressing a courtesy call by the National Chief Imam, he vowed to consult the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and other stakeholders to ensure inclusive and democratic decision-making.
“I wish to assure my father [National Chief Imam] and our fathers that we’re not going to misuse the majority we have in Parliament. Even though we have a huge majority, more than two-thirds, we’re not going to misuse it. We are going to consult with the NPP at every stage and make sure that we do things by consensus instead of railroading everybody,” Mr. Mahama stated.
He also dismissed the “supreme leader” label often attributed to him, reaffirming his dedication to democratic principles.
Mr. Mahama pledged to work tirelessly to revitalize Ghana, describing his final term in office as his legacy and a defining chapter in his political career.
Acknowledging the challenges ahead, he urged his future appointees to adopt a results-oriented approach, warning that it will not be business as usual.
“You can count on me to work as hard as I can to move Ghana to where it should be,” he added, while calling for the continued support and prayers of religious leaders to guide his administration.
