Paul Ofori, Head of Research at the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has expressed support for the government’s plan to improve revenue collection efficiency at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO).
Speaking to ABC News GH, he reacted to the Finance Minister’s announcement in the 2025 budget that ECG and NEDCO would implement measures such as improved metering systems and a Private Sector Participation (PSP) strategy to enhance revenue collection.
Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Ofori stated, “To a large extent, the angle of charging ECG and NEDCO to bring in a private sector to handle the collection of revenue and also bring in a proper metering system, I believe, is a good call.”
His remarks reflect growing concerns about inefficiencies in Ghana’s electricity revenue system, with many experts advocating for technological and managerial improvements to boost collections and reduce financial losses.
