The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has confirmed the successful evacuation of the first group of Ghanaians from Iran to Turkey today, amid growing instability in the Middle East.
In a Facebook post on Friday, June 20, the Minister said the operation is part of a broader emergency strategy by the Mahama administration to ensure the safety of Ghanaian nationals in conflict-prone regions.
He added that preparations are also underway to evacuate Ghanaians currently living in Israel.
Ablakwa revealed that he had earlier met with the ambassadors of both Iran and Israel to present Ghana’s emergency evacuation strategy and secure essential border access approvals.
He also expressed Ghana’s displeasure over recent remarks by the Israeli Ambassador concerning Ghana’s voting patterns at international forums.
“I urged him to respect our sovereign right to make independent decisions based on our longstanding globally acclaimed foreign policy principles,” Ablakwa stated.
He further called for an immediate ceasefire and a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict.
