The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has called on the international community for urgent logistical assistance to evacuate Ghanaian nationals stranded in Iran and Israel as tensions between the two Middle Eastern nations escalate dangerously.
Speaking during the Ghana-European Union Partnership Dialogue in Accra, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa emphasized the gravity of the situation and the need for coordinated international intervention.
“…we also appeal for your support in terms of logistics as we currently continue with our evacuation of Ghanaians in Iran and Israel following the unfortunate conflict that has erupted over the last few days,” he stated.
According to the Ministry’s latest update, there have been no Ghanaian casualties or injuries so far. Evacuation efforts from Iran are reportedly underway and progressing successfully. However, the situation in Israel remains more complex.
The Israeli government has declared a state of emergency, closed all borders, and advised all diplomats to work remotely. Consequently, Ghana’s planned evacuation from Israel requires official clearance from Israeli authorities — a process the Ministry says is actively ongoing.
The Ministry revealed that 922 Ghanaians, including 65 students studying at six Israeli universities, have been identified by Ghana’s embassy in Israel. Emergency communication channels with the Ghanaian community have been established, and the embassy is ensuring access to bomb shelters for their safety.
“President Mahama’s Administration is resolved to spare no effort in ensuring that Ghanaians caught up in this Israeli-Iranian conflict are offered full protection and removed from danger. We shall not fail our compatriots,” the Minister pledged in a Facebook statement.
The Ministry has also approved an Emergency Evacuation Plan for Israel, which will be activated as soon as conditions allow.
