The Ministry of Energy has assured the public that it is actively working to prevent the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) from embarking on its planned strike over the newly introduced GH₵1 fuel levy.
According to the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Richmond Rockson, Minister John Jinapor is continuing high-level engagements with key stakeholders to address concerns surrounding the energy sector levy.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Rockson emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that the concerns of all affected parties, particularly transport operators, are properly addressed. He indicated that there is no intention to implement the levy without thorough dialogue and stakeholder input.
“The ministry will continue to engage,” Mr. Rockson stated, adding that efforts are ongoing to reach a resolution that avoids disruptions to public transport services.
The GPRTU had earlier threatened to strike over the GH₵1 levy, citing the increased financial burden on drivers and commuters.
