The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Ghana, H.E. Ali Ghomshi, has issued a searing condemnation of what he describes as an unprovoked attack by the Israeli regime on Iranian territory, warning of a “decisive and legitimate” response under international law.
In a strongly worded statement released from the Iranian Embassy in Accra, Ambassador Ghomshi accused Israel of launching a surprise assault in the early hours of Friday, June 13, targeting residential zones, energy infrastructure, and peaceful nuclear facilities while civilians were preparing for a national celebration.
“The Zionist regime launched an onslaught against our land, martyring numerous civilians, including women and children,” he stated. “Our response is legitimate defence in accordance with international law, with reason, and with human logic.”
Ambassador Ghomshi further charged that the assault would not have been possible without the “approval and full support” of Western powers, singling out the United States.
He described Israel’s actions as part of a broader campaign of genocide in Gaza and the West Bank and decried the Israeli regime’s nuclear hypocrisy, noting its refusal to adhere to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) or accept international oversight.
“It is unimaginable that such aggressions… could have taken place without the support of certain Western governments,” he said, accusing Israel of intentionally derailing peace negotiations. “We did not start this war; it was imposed on us.”
Calling on the United Nations and the global community to reject “hypocrisy and irresponsibility,” the Iranian envoy urged urgent action to hold Israel and its allies accountable.
He warned that Iran will continue to exercise its right to self-defence and safeguard its sovereignty with all its capabilities.
“The UN Security Council must fulfil its responsibilities. Words equating the aggressor with the victim are nothing but hypocrisy,” the Ambassador declared. “Iran will respond decisively… We are not indifferent to our martyrs or to justice.”
