Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah has officially resigned from her position as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) with immediate effect.
Her resignation, which was formalized in a letter dated January 31, 2025, was addressed to the Chief of Staff at the Office of the President and copied to the Secretary to the President.
Having served as both Deputy CEO and later substantive CEO for a combined period of eight years under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, Hajia Abibata expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the institution’s growth. However, she noted that it was the right time to step aside for new leadership to take over.
“It has been a privilege to serve and contribute to the growth and success of MASLOC. However, I believe this is the right moment for me to step down and allow new leadership to guide the organization,” she stated in her resignation letter.
In her letter, Hajia Abibata reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring a smooth transition. “I remain confident in the continued success of MASLOC and will do everything possible during this transition period to ensure a seamless handover of responsibilities,” she assured.
She extended her appreciation to the Board, Management, and Staff of MASLOC, acknowledging their support and collaboration throughout her tenure.
In an interview confirming her resignation, Hajia Abibata expressed her profound gratitude to former President Nana Akufo-Addo for entrusting her with key leadership roles.
She described her dual appointment—first as Deputy CEO from 2017 to 2021, and later as CEO from 2021 to 2025—as a reflection of Akufo-Addo’s commitment to empowering women in leadership.
