The Nsoatre Traditional Council has petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to intervene in the long-standing Nsuatre chieftaincy dispute, accusing the Bono Regional House of Chiefs of defying a Court of Appeal ruling.
Addressing the media at Nsoatre Palace, the Council alleged that the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, led by the Dormaahene, has refused for the past three months to comply with a March 19 Court of Appeal ruling from Kumasi.
According to the Council, the Court of Appeal ruled that Forster Agyei Korang lacks legal standing to continue a chieftaincy case initiated by the late Nsuatre Queen mother. The court therefore directed the Bono Regional House of Chiefs to fast-track the process for the National House of Chiefs to gazette Nana Hinneh Anframfo II as the Nsuatre Omanhene.
Dabihene of Nsoatre Traditional Area, Nana Hinneh Marfo, stated that despite the ruling, the Bono Regional House still intends to hear Agyei Korang’s case and has not forwarded the Omanhene’s Chieftaincy Declaration Forms to the National House of Chiefs for gazetting.
He further alleged that although the Bono Regional House of Chiefs has appealed to the Supreme Court, it continues to sit on the same matter in Sunyani. He said the House was fined GH¢15,000 after failing to appear for its own stay of execution application.
Describing the Regional House as a major cause of chieftaincy disputes, the Nsuatre Traditional Council is calling on President Mahama to intervene to restore order.
