The Suame District Court has remanded seven military officers, including senior personnel and a driver, into the custody of the Military Police in connection with the alleged brutal assault and death of two young civilians.
The victims—Kwame Adu (aka Ogee), Kwabena Sarfo, and Christian Obiri Yeboah (also known as Kofi Yesu)—were reportedly arrested by uniformed soldiers on March 28, 2025, over accusations of stealing an iPhone.
They were taken to the 4th Infantry Battalion (4BN) barracks in Kumasi, where they were allegedly subjected to severe beatings.
According to police prosecutors, two of the young men were later found dead in a bush at Danyame, a suburb of Kumasi, while the third victim, Obiri Yeboah, was found alive and receiving treatment.
He confirmed to investigators that they were assaulted at the barracks before being dumped. The lifeless bodies were retrieved by officers from the Suame Division and deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue.
Relatives of Adu and Sarfo, who had reported them missing, later identified the bodies at the hospital, demanding swift justice.
During their appearance in court on Tuesday, the accused were charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Prosecutors requested that they be remanded in prison custody to allow investigations to continue, but defense lawyers argued for Military Police custody instead. The presiding judge upheld the latter request, remanding them until the next hearing on April 22, 2025.
Family members of the deceased, who were present in court, have reiterated their calls for justice and accountability.
