The Koforidua High Court has cited Ernest Kumi, Member of Parliament for Akwatia, for contempt after he disregarded an injunction barring him from holding himself as MP-elect.
The court, presided over by His Lordship Justice Senyo Amedahe, had granted the injunction on January 2, 2025, restraining Mr. Kumi from being sworn in, recognized, or gazetted as the elected MP.
Despite this order, Mr. Kumi proceeded with the swearing-in process, prompting the court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.
The contempt charge follows a certiorari application brought against him by the applicant, whose legal counsel, Bernard Bediako, has since addressed the media.
The warrant sets the stage for further legal action, as the court moves to enforce its ruling.
The case has sparked major public interest, with legal analysts weighing in on the implications of defying judicial orders.
