The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially set January 31, 2026, as the date for its presidential primaries to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections, Prime News can confirm.
This follows the National Council’s adoption of a proposal made by the party’s Constitution Review Committee as part of ongoing internal reforms.
Confirming the development, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua, emphasized the finality of the decision. “The date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026.
That will be the day we elect our flagbearer. A planning committee has also been established to oversee the process as part of broader constitutional amendments,” he disclosed.
Kodua clarified that the date does not require further approval from the National Delegates Conference, as the National Council holds the mandate to finalize such matters.
In preparation for the upcoming changes, a nine-member committee chaired by former Bekwai MP Joseph Osei Owusu, with the party’s National Organizer Henry Nana Boakye as Vice Chair, has been tasked to oversee the organization of the National Delegates Conference scheduled for July 2025.
The conference will further deliberate on key proposals aimed at strengthening the party’s internal democracy and electoral processes.
