Political historian Prof. Samuel Adu Gyamfi of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to embrace open dialogue and internal criticism as it prepares for the 2024 general elections.
According to him, stifling dissent within the party could backfire, threatening unity and weakening electoral chances.
Prof. Adu Gyamfi emphasized that figures like Kennedy Agyapong, who enjoy considerable grassroots support, must be given space to express their views rather than being alienated.
He further advised the camp of former flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to refrain from directly responding to Kennedy Agyapong’s recent comments, warning that any rebuttal could escalate tensions within the party.
Speaking on ABC News Ghana, Prof. Adu Gyamfi cautioned that Agyapong commands a powerful following within the NPP, and mishandling such internal disagreements could deepen rifts at a critical time.
He noted that internal democracy and inclusiveness are essential in maintaining a cohesive and forward-looking political front.
